Official Press Release:

LED ZEPPELIN SWEEPS CIRCUS READERS POLL! PLANT VOTED BEST SINGER
PAGE BEST GUITARIST AND ZEPPELIN BEST GROUP
BY MORE THAN 20,000 ROCK FANS!

Stephen Gaines, Editor of Circus Magazine, has revealed a triple victory for Led Zeppelin in the 1974 Circus Readers Poll. Circus is one of the oldest and best circulated rock magazines in the world. More than 20,000 ballots were tabulated by Circus staff in determining the results. This is believed to be the widest sampling of opinion from an American rock audience in the last several years.

In the Best Group category, Led Zeppelin beat out Alice Cooper who finished second, and the Rolling Stones who finished third. In the Best Lead Singer category, Zeppelin vocalist Robert Plant beat out Alice Cooper who finished second and Elton John who came in third. In the Best Lead Guitar category, Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page beat out Eric Clapton who came in second, and Glen Buxton who came in third.

This victory in the Circus poll marks another highlight in a momentous year for Zeppelin. On May 5, 1973, they toppled an eight year old record by attracting 56,800 paying customers to Tampa Stadium, exceeding the record of 55,000 set in 1965 by the Beatles. Their fifth album "Houses Of The Holy," became their fifth consecutive "platinum" album signifying more than $2 million in sales after being #1 nationwide. It is still on all three trade charts, 46 weeks later as is its predecessor, "Led Zeppelin" 116 weeks after release.

Led Zeppelin was formed in 1968 and has maintained the same personnel throughout: Robert Plant, lead vocals, Jimmy Page, lead guitar, John Paul Jones, bass guitar and keyboards, and John Bonham, drums.

The 1973 Circus poll winners were Alice Cooper for best singer, best group and Eric Clapton for beat guitarist. Zeppelin's triple victory in the 1974 poll clearly proves that they have become America's favorite rock group.
